Welsh Open Snooker Ronnie O’Sullivan

Welsh Open Snooker Ronnie O’Sullivan

Welsh Open Snooker Ronnie O’Sullivan

Welsh Open Snooker Ronnie O’Sullivan came from 5-2 down to beat Neil Robertson 9-5 in the final of the BetVictor Welsh Open Snooker in Cardiff.

The match appeared to be going Neils way when he controlled the early stages, but a small amount of errors in the evening session cost him as O’Sullivan produced the form he has shown throughout the event. Ronnie then produced a run of seven frames in a row, in a week which has seen him produce brilliant snooker even by his own high standards.

Ronnie won his fourth Welsh Open Snooker crown, matching the record set by John Higgins last year. This was Ronnie’s 28th ranking title of his career, equaling the tallies of Higgins and Steve Davis.

The £60,000 top prize moves Chigwell’s 40-year-old O’Sullivan up one place to fourth in the world rankings and also makes him eligible to enter the World Grand Prix in Llandudno next month.

Neil Received £30,000 pounds for runner up and mentioned that at 5-3 he should have gone 6-3 in front and the match may have had a different outcome. On the form that O’Sullivan showed i imagine if that scoreline had happened he would have played even harder and still come back to win as it seems he’s getting better.

Hopefully now he will Enter the World Grand Prix and win that before the Worlds and possibly equal Steve Davis at 6 World Titles. The other Professionals have also noticeably started to raise their games as well with Ronnie back so hopefully the World Title will be a great standard this Year.

The Stuart Bingham Story

The Stuart Bingham Story

The Stuart Bingham Story is a great interview with the current Snooker World Champion.
As an amateur, he won the 1996 IBSF World Snooker Championship, but he then spent many seasons improving his form to become a top-ranked player some 15 years later. He first entered the top 32 in the world rankings for the 2006/2007 season, and first reached the top 16 during the 2011/2012 season.

At the age of 35, he won the first ranking title of his career at the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open. He claimed his second ranking title at age 38 by winning the 2014 Shanghai Masters and followed this with his first World Championship in 2015, which British media said “completed an astonishing transition from journeyman to king of the Crucible”

World Snooker Final Bingham Wins

World Snooker Final Bingham Wins

In the World Snooker Final the quality kept up with the first days play and was a very entertaining Final Between Stuart Bingham and Shaun Murphy. Both players scoring well and a few twists and turns under the Pressure of the Crucible.

In the fourth session Bingham won six out of eight frames – missing the final red on a maximum 147 effort along the way which left him four frames from victory at 14-11. Stuart was appearing in his first final and had fought back from 3-0 and 8-4 down to end the first day 9-8 behind.

In the last Interval the score where 15 Bingham v Murphy 14 with the turn around being a missed black when Bingham was 14-11 up. A few mistakes later and the pressure was on Stuart and Murphy looked the more comfortable.

On resumption of the Final and the last session Murphy wan in on 14 and missed the blue into the Middle and left a red near the black spot. What would normally be a easy red for Bingham he missed it and let Murphy back in once again and that which Shaun took full advantage of the mistakes from Stuart but then missed when leading 52-0 but left a red over the corner.

Stuart swerved to try and move it and left it in the pocket and it was now 15-15! A few tense frames then went to bingham and he finished it of with a 88 break in the last missing the second last red.

Stuart Bingham becomes the oldest player to win the World Snooker title winning 18-15 since Ray Reardon who was 45 in 1978.

World Snooker Final 2015 Day 1

World Snooker Final 2015 Day 1

What a great start to the World Snooker Final 2015 with break’s of 50 or more in all 17 frames played so far!

Murphy started the match with a 3-0 lead only for Stuart to come back and knock in a Century break to win a frame and the Session ended up 4-4 and the end of the first session. In the second session Murphy took all 4 frames to go into the interval 8-4 and then increased that to 9-4 ahead in the first frame of the session.

Bingham then made some great breaks under pressure and it could have been centuries in four of them and knocked in 76,123,89,76 and a 53 after Murphy missed after being in with a good chance.

What a great fightback from Stuart Bingham from a point of 9-4 down and looking like it was almost impossible to win the second session 4-1 and now be back into the final again.

Shaun Murphy (Eng) 9-8 Stuart Bingham (Eng)

2015 BetVictor Welsh Snooker

2015 BetVictor Welsh Snooker Open Matthew Stevens beat Ronnie O’Sullivan for the first time in 12 years, winning 4-3 to reach the last 16 of the BetVictor Welsh Open in Cardiff.

Ronnie was in front 2-0 in front and missed the final blue and Matthew took advantage to win the third fram and secured the fourth with a excellent 80 break to level at 2-2. Ronnie then won the fifth fram to lead 3-2 to then miss potting the yellow for a 4-2 win. Instead it was missed and Matthew Stevens cleared the colours to level at 3-3.

Down to the final frame as many have gone so far. Both had a few chances in the decider but Matthew picked up a 38 point lead with Ronnie needing a few snookers and Stevens won for the first time in 12 years!

Well done to Matthew he’s one of the nicest players on tour and Ian Barber and i had a great time with him and Maguire in Thialand a few years ago.

Quoted from O’Sullivan Comments

Ronnie O’Sullivan said: “Matthew played a good match and deserved his win. He’s had a lean few years but he’s a great player and has under-achieved. It’s unfortunate for me but that’s snooker – you win some and lose some and have to accept the losses. It was a good crowd and a good atmosphere – I’m just disappointed to have lost.”

In other Matches:

    • Ben Woollaston continued his fine run by beating Mark Allen 4-3 with a top run of 90. Allen led 1-0 and 2-1 but it was Leicester’s Woollaston who eventually won with runs of 43 and 30 in the decider.
    • Ali Carter built a 3-1 lead over Matthew Selt with a top break of 103 before being hauled back to 3-3. But Carter, enjoying his best run since his return from cancer treatment, took the decider 67-19.
    • Gary Wilson scored one of his best career wins, beating Joe Perry 4-2 with a best break of 72.

Dafabet News 2015 Ronnie O’Sullivan

Dafabet News 2015 Ronnie O'Sullivan

Dafabet News 2015 Ronnie O’Sullivan has now set a new record for career centuries with his 776th a 101 in the first frame of a 6-1 defeat of Marcu Fu and believes 1000 is now reachable.

The crowd at Alexandra Palace rose to their feet to acclaim the snooker genius and the clapping went for almost 2 minutes.

The local favourite from Chigwell needed just 104 minutes to end the challenge of Hong Kong’s Fu and set up a meeting with Neil Robertson or Ali Carter on Saturday at 1pm O’Sullivan is chasing a sixth Masters crown, which would equal another Hendry record and the third event title in a row.

Quotes Ronnie:

“It’s a nice record to have,” said O’Sullivan. “I’m glad it was out of the way early today so I could focus on playing and winning the tournament. It has taken me 21 years to do it so it was nice to have a couple of minutes of clapping, but I didn’t want it to over-shadow what we were there to do, which was to play a match. To get to 1,000 centuries is definitely achievable and worth going for.

“I was pleased with my attitude today, I played every ball as if it counted, from start to finish. Even at 5-1 I wasn’t thinking it was over because Marco can win three or four frames in a row. Nicking the close frames can be more important than making big breaks, so it was massive to win the fourth and be 3-1 up at the interval.”

Dafabet Masters 2015 Ronnie O’Sullivan

Dafabet Masters 2015 Ronnie O'Sullivan

Dafabet Masters 2015 Ronnie O’Sullivan equalled Hendry’s Century record?

Ronnie O’Sullivan fluked ( or what I call the Dimitri a player I play with flukes a lot.) the final yellow in the tenth frame, and added the green, brown and blue to match Hendry’s record with a 116. Ronnie will now meet Marco Fu on Thursday afternoon with the chance to set a new record.

Over a 23-year career, O’Sullivan has established himself as the most gifted player ever to hold a cue and the greatest ever break-builder. He is now setting his sites on another Hendry record: six Masters titles. He’ll equal that if he triumphs at Alexandra Palace on Sunday night.

At the Start today They frames got messy and O’Sullivan led 2-1 after an hour’s play. He then stepped up a gear with breaks of 77, 91 and 100 to lead 5-1.

Walden, made a run of 100 to win frame seven and Ronnie looked set for victory when he made a 66 in the next, but Walden got a snooker and free ball on the last red and cleared up to a 5-3 score. Ricky  cleared with 73 in the next, an unlikely fight-back was in full flow.

But O’Sullivan responded by getting the frame and century he needed. In potting the black off the last red he failed to dislodge the yellow and brown from the baulk cushion, but a hit-and-hope yellow came off three cushions and dropped into a centre pocket, leaving him perfect position on the green. O’Sullivan went on to make 116 as a packed house of nearly 1,700 joined him in celebration.

Quotes from Ronnie

“I’ve been thinking about the (centuries) record since I got within striking distance and I’m glad I’ve equalled it now,” said O’Sullivan.

“I doubt Stephen Hendry is that bothered, he’s still got the seven world titles record which means more to him than anything. For me it’s more about winning this tournament now.

Dafabet Masters 2015 Neil Robertson

Dafabet Masters 2015 Neil Robertson

Dafabet Masters 2015 Neil Robertson gets over the line 6- 4  in what was a match of many errors from both players.

Neil will hope that his form gets better as he had one Century Break (117) to lead 5-4  with a 90% potting rate from neil and 87% from Robert  in the 9th frame of the match.

The rest play for Neil was under 50% and normally he has a great strength in this area.

Robert Milkins did well in a few frames that he should have lost and capitalised on Robertson errors. All in all its great for Australia and Neil that’s he’s through to the next match and may his form get better in his next match.

In the last frame Neil had a 76 and that was enough even though Robert attempted to do something.

The long potting success for neil was just 53% so he will need to get back to his best to have a chance in the Masters this year.
